In this article we propose the use of virtual dissection table in the education and training of students in forensic medicine and toxicology. Due to limited availability of cadavers to forensic students, virtual dissection table comes in as a sustainable option. CADAVIZ, is an advanced virtual dissection table, with a full-scale digital depiction of the human body. It enables the observation, manipulation, and virtual dissection of lifelike human model with precision. It helps to visualize body’s anatomical structures and organs in great detail.
An important feature of CADAVIZ is the availability of DICOM viewer to visualize various types of scans or images, and convert these images into 3D models for better understanding and viewing. These 3D reconstructions could aid in determining the need for an autopsy and in the identification of key findings essential before an autopsy. It could assist in the planning of autopsy and help identify findings that may not be easily identifiable through traditional dissection methods. We describe the use of CADAVIZ especially in terms of training, in the identification of individuals from their skeletal remains, in identifying the kind of trauma, in predicting the weapon used, injury caused or the sequence of trauma. We focus on the odontological, anthropological and radiological aspect of forensic science.
