Prevalence and Predictors of Physical Activity among Healthcare staff of a tertiary care teaching hospital at Turki, Muzaffarpur, Bihar – A Cross‑Sectional Study

Background: The Covid-19 pandemic has adversely impacted our physical activity levels. Sedentary lifestyle along with the junk food culture is throwing a pandemic of preventable diseases like obesity and diabetes. According to a recent report of WHO globally, 1 in 4 adults do not meet the global recommended levels of physical activity.
Aim:
To Determine the prevalence of Physical activity among Doctors and staffs of RDJMMMCH,and barriers responsible for physical inactivity among Doctors and staffs Of RDJMMMCH, Turki, Muzaffarpur .
Methods: Cross sectional study was carried out among Doctors and staffs of RDJMMMCH,Turki,Muzaffarpur .The study period was from November to December 2023.Tool of study was Barriers to being active questionnaire. The Centre for Disease Control(CDC) developed the barriers to being active questionnaire, which consists of 21 items related to seven different barriers to physical activity.
Results:out of 110 participants only 62.7% were physically active .predictors of being physically inactive are lack of time,social influence ,energy ,skill,resource,will power and fear of injury .
Conclusion: In summary, around 41(37.3%) of our study participants were physically inactive. It was more among men, and those who were above 30 years. It is recommended that strategies for increasing physical activity should be designed and targeted for healthcare professionals. These include awareness campaigns, building of parks and sidewalks, use of technology, and peer support groups.
